Accept multi-line text for longer messages.

Text Area collects longer multi-line personalization, such as gift messages or production notes. It can update Live Preview, link to font and color controls, and add a fixed personalization fee.

Overview

Text Area is similar to Text Input but accepts multiple lines of text. Use for longer messages, poems, dedications, or custom instructions.

Add a Text Area and position the preview text

Add Text Area when shoppers need multiple lines, then position the preview text on the product image.

Live Preview

Text Area supports Live Preview. When enabled, the entered text renders on the product image in real time. Configure font, size, color, and position in the preview layer settings. You can also connect the preview layer to Font Swatch or Color Swatch options so shoppers can style their message.

Turn Live Preview on or off for Text Area

Enable live preview when the shopper's multi-line message should render on the product image.

Move the Text Area preview text

Drag the text layer to place the message in the right area of the design.

Resize the Text Area preview text

Resize the preview layer so longer messages fit the intended print or engraving area.

Rotate the Text Area preview text

Rotate the text layer when the product design needs angled or vertical placement.

Change Text Area preview text color

Use a global color, custom color, or linked Color Swatch to control the preview text color.

Link Text Area to a Color Swatch

Connect the Text Area preview color to a Color Swatch so shoppers can choose the message color.

Link Text Area to a Font Swatch

Connect Text Area to a Font Swatch so shoppers can preview their message in the selected font.

General Settings

Label — The field label (e.g. "Your message")
Required — Whether the field is mandatory
Help Text — Guide text for customers
Character Limit — Maximum number of characters allowed

Change Text Area label and placeholder

Set a clear label and placeholder so shoppers understand what kind of message to enter.

Make Text Area required or optional

Text Area can be required by default, or optional when the message should not block checkout.

Option Values

Text Area does not have predefined option values — the customer types their own text. Additional settings:

Placeholder Text — Example text shown in the field before typing
Price Add-on — Flat fee for this personalization option

Appearance

Input Style — Border, outline, and corner radius of the text area
Label Position — Above or beside the field
Layout — Standard field or collapsible field for longer forms

Switch Text Area between standard and collapsible

Use collapsible Text Area when the field is important but should take less space in the form.

Conditional Logic

Use Conditional Logic to show or hide this option based on another selection. For example, show the message field only after a gift wrap option is selected.

Can Text Area be used without Live Preview?

Yes. Turn off the Customizer or Live Customizer toggle for the option. The field still appears on the storefront and the shopper's text is still saved with the order.

Can Text Area link to Font Swatch and Color Swatch?

Yes. Text Area can link to Font Swatch for font selection and Color Swatch for predefined text color selection.

Can Text Area add a price?

Yes. Text Area can use a fixed Price Add-on for the personalization field.
